December 2, 2009 at 6 PM
December 9, 2009 at 6 PM
Annex, Unitarian Church of Ithaca,
306 North Aurora Street, Ithaca, NY

If you are unemployed or marginally employed – just hanging on – the Holidays are a troubling time. The above sessions, facilitated by Jonathan Ames, Ph.D., and sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Tompkins County, are designed to provide help and support for getting through it all joyfully and positively.
The December 2 session will consider unemployment and economic hardship as a source of traumatic individual and family stress, and will provide a safe and proven opportunity for relief. The process used will be an application of Critical Incident Stress Management, a technique which has served many people in catastrophic, social or economic distress.

The December 9 session will focus on specific, creative ways for coping with children and young people at this time of year, as well as for finding a deeper, more hopeful meaning to the holidays at hand and the hard times we’re in.
Participants are encouraged to attend both sessions since the second builds upon the first. Also, RSVP requested, but not required. The workshops are free of charge.

Contact: Catherine at MHATC, at 607-273-9250 or by Email at info@mhaedu.org to RSVP

Fine Arts Boosters: SCHOOL AND UNIVERSITY ARTS PARTNERSHIP

(ITHACA) The Ithaca City School District eighth graders are headed to Cornell
University’s Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts for a special matinee
performance of Romeo and Juliet. The famous Shakespeare play is studied as
part of the eighth grade curriculum and students will have an opportunity to see
it live during the school day due to a theater pilot project at the Department
of Theatre, Film and Dance.

On December 4, 400 eighth graders from Lehman Alternative Community School,
Boynton Middle School, Dewitt Middle School, and Groton Middle School will head
to Cornell University to see the play.

The students will also be able to view the work of Ithaca High School students
from the Urban Art Club. The Schwartz Center involved students in the Romeo and
Juliet set design. The unique set of Romeo and Juliet is a towering urban
sprawl complete with graffitied walls (courtesy of the Ithaca High School Urban
Art Club, Cornell students, and GIAC leader Jay Stooks) designed by resident
scenic designer Kent Goetz. Also designing for this show are: Warren Cross
(sound), E.D. Intemann (lights), and Sarah E. Bernstein (costumes). IPEI, GIAC
and Ithaca High School have provided support to the Urban Art Club.
